The Campus Farmstand

PEAS is very excited to announce that our plans for a Campus Farmstand have been coming along swimmingly. This week, we were honoured to be awarded the OPIRG McMaster Carbon Reduction Project Grant and were well-received by the McMaster Sustainability Office Advisory Committee when the project was presented at their meeting Thursday.

A few more details to sort through, and in no time, fresh organic local produce will be up for sale. If you're interested in volunteering with the Campus Farmstand, please get in touch: opirg.peas@gmail.com.

Keep on shuckin'.

The Good Food Box

It's pretty simple.

$12, 20 lbs of fresh food, once a month.

The MacBreadBin in partnership with Grace Lutheran Church and in solidarity with PEAS has brought the Good Food Box to Hamilton.

Grace Lutheran Church has been offering the service for the last two years and has recently collaborated with the BreadBin to establish a campus pick-up.

The first Tuesday of every month, volunteers pick up the produce from the Toronto Food Terminal, divide them into the pre-ordered shares, and deliver them to the MSU Office where they are available for pick-up (direct pick-up at the church also available).

To order a GFB for McMaster pick-up contact Henry at macbreadbin@msu.mcmaster.ca. For pick-up on Main Street West (a stone's throw east of the hospital) get in touch with the Grace Lutheran Church http://www.inform.hamilton.ca/details.asp?RSN=66542.

Volunteers are always needed to help sort and pack the boxes the morning of delivery.

The next GFB day is Tuesday, February 3.

Keep your eyes peeled in your box for recipes courtesy of PEAS and an invitation to PEASoup to use up your leftover produce!

More about Rhizome Radio...

Inspired the ecology and philosphy of multiple, horizontal, and non-hierarchical ways of knowing, Rhizome Radio serves as an open forum for discussing global social and environmental justice issues through a local lens. It is a means of connecting community members, and contextualizing local events, actions, and the people involved. We'll be looking for guests and working groups to interview so tune in! For more info, or if you want to contribute or even come on to the show, contact Tings or Brian at the.rhizome@gmail.com.

PEASoup

The PEAS collective/community kitchen project is up and running! Our next sessions are January 9 & 23, and February 13 & 27 at St. Paul's (thanks to SP for their generosity in letting us use their beautiful kitchen!). E-mail opirg.peas@gmail.com to indicate your interest and book a spot! The project will continually evolve to meet participant needs and interests. What we know for certain is that great people will be coming together to prepare a great meal (and we'll send you off with leftovers...) There is no fee, but we do ask participants to bring the ingredients, to be determined as a group with the help of our volunteer PEASoup facilitators.
